Plastic pollution has gotten out of control. So much plastic is used that it is revolting. There are many things you can do to stop this plastic mentality that we have come to know! If you must use plastic, try to use numbers 1 and 2. These numbers can be the most easily made into something else and made into items that can be recycled. And ALWAYS recycle your plastics! An easy fix for a lot of plastic produced is bringing a reusable bag wherever you go, or refuse a bag when you don’t need one! Using a reusable water bottle can also drastically reduce your plastic output. Approximately, 2,480,000 tons of plastic water bottles are thrown away yearly. 75% of these are thrown out after one use. And you can also bring/use a reusable cup/tumbler when going out for coffee, smoothies, tea, ect. And here is something to think about, consider some alternatives to plastic straws. There are glass, stainless steel, and paper straws! So when going out you can carry one around and use it at a restaurant or in a drink you buy. But really; do you even need one? Most of our use for straws is just simple convenience and because the mindset we grew up in! We don’t need to have single- use plastics! They are so wasteful. In the ocean, there is plastic soup throughout the water column composed of both macro- and micro-plastics. Help us to stop this and rethink your day to day choices! You can make a difference in this world and in our oceans. After being an intern for Hawaii Wildlife Fund and seeing all the marine debris collect with animal bite mark out of them I have rethought all of my choices and try to be as conscious as possible! Just remember, everything you do has an impact! Make it be a good one!
