interesting facts, news & videos related to our mission & vision
When the first Spaniards came into contact with the ancient Mayan civilization they were analyzing the hieroglyphs found on many temples. One of these drawings depicted a mystical creature that had dog like features. Because it could not be related to any other animal, the Spaniards decided it was a creature used in legends and only existed spirituality. However, this creature was the shark or as it is known in Yucateco maya, the XOC. Our ancient ancestors used to observe this creature above waters, as well as below. One of the observations they made was that it never came in contact with land, an swam very fast for its size. It ate a lot of fish, but it never bothered anyone who swam in the water with it. They understood that sharks could smell and detect fear and even though little was known about the shark, they never feared it. Our ancestors could live in harmony with this animal, marine predator, but for some reason we cannot. We are destroying populations of sharks and making them in borderline of extinction. Lets act now and continue our ancestors legacy to love nature and protect it.
